29th May: Setting Your Financial Goals for 2019
June 4, 2019

Delayed gratification and self-discipline. Two factors that not only make the reward sweet but also give us time to get clarity about what we really want. Over time the JOMO (joy of missing out…..on all the stress that goes with keeping up appearances) will ironically see you living with much more.

For example it wasn’t until 2014 that I had my first trip to mainland USA and in August this year I’m going back for my third trip. I’m taking Mum on a bucket list trip to see Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon. Prior to that I’ll be in Canberra from the 16th to 20 June if you’d like to catch up. I’ll be speaking at the Australian National University entertaining staff on how to whip their wallets into shape. We’ll be covering the psychology of money and how to retrain the brain, topics that are covered in the online products available here. Indeed it’s not the numbers, it’s the mindset. If it was just the numbers then everyone over a certain income level would have a certain level of Financial Fitness and we know that’s not the case.

Now these trips away from the beautiful 300 acres I call home are made possible because I focused on building my nest egg and paying off properties first. In my 20s having graduated from the Royal military College Duntroon I had friends who frequently bought the latest model of something or went on annual overseas trips. Some of them now regret not focusing on their financial future. However every moment in time is an opportunity to change direction so with the new financial year* look to make new financial year resolutions. If you’d like help in achieving these goals or creating a fun relationship with your money just contact me.

And if your workplace (both in the USA and Australia) can see the benefit of joining thought leaders like Westpac, ANU or Barnardos (among many others), in offering this training to their staff they can make an enquiry via the Financial Fitness site. The training is tax deductible and is a great recruitment and retention tool, with employees being able to focus more on work while at work, and less on their personal financial life. Remember that we cover how to have a healthy mind, body and wallet, suggesting you do the same. These three pillars of heath are the foundation for awesome results in life!

*in Australia the fiscal year runs July – Jun however wherever you are, since it’s not the silly festive season, it’s an ideal time to create financial goals (midway through the calendar year)
